Running Workshop
Tired of injuries? Knee pain? Foot pain? Learn to run properly!
Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned veteran, our running workshop will help you run faster and healthier by correcting your stride mechanics through a one-on-one personalized video analysis. It doesn’t matter if you’re training for your first 5k or a new PR in the marathon, running technique plays a major part in performance and sustained training without the injuries. I address the following:
- Stride evaluation through video analysis and why injuries occur because of poor mechanics
- Drills and exercises that allow your body to relearn proper form and break bad habits that have accrued through time
- Nutrition for the endurance athlete; fueling before, during and after
- Proper footwear and injury prevention
Running as a “skill”
Most people look at the title and get a little confused. Running is a skill? Isn’t running intuitive by nature? The answer to both of these questions is yes. Running is a skill, much like any other motor skill, that must be properly learned and executed to stay healthy and perform efficiently. Running, however, is also intuitive. Man evolved as a hunter/gatherer, running for extended periods of time to chase down his prey.
While running is intuitive in the genetic code of humans, our natural “gate” or stride is affected over time by loss of mobility, bad habits, improper footwear and general idleness. Watch a child’s soccer game and you will see nature at its best, unrestrained by the above factors.
I find it of the utmost importance to reestablish the true “skill of running.” After the skill has been established, I program the athlete on an individual basis while training in a group environment. The skill is based upon “pose technique”, which was developed in the 70’s by Dr. Nicholas Romanov.
